Box Score ASHLAND, Va. -- The Marymount University men's volleyball team earned its fourth consecutive victory on Monday night, as the Saints handled the Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon College in a 3-0 victory.
Following a pair of victories over Continental Volleyball Conference pod opponent Elizabethtown this past weekend, Marymount's offense picked right up where it left off. The Saints pummelled Randolph-Macon to the tune of 42 kills and a season-best .424 attack percentage. While MU's attack shined, the Yellow Jackets wilted under the barrage. The home side mustered just 29 kills and a .205 attack percentage, as Marymount ran away with the match.
Freshman Caden Kelty highlighted the Saints' straight-sets sweep. The Lumberton, New Jersey, native reached double-digit kills for the first time in his career with a match-best 11. He also tallied a team-best seven digs and a service ace. Miles Olson continued his hot streak as well, as the junior floored 10 kills to go along with five digs and two aces. For Olson, the match marked the sixth time this season that he has reached double-digit kills. Sava Topich posted a match-high 29 assists and chipped in five kills as MU's lead distributor.
Marymount took an early lead in the opening set, but Randolph-Macon battled back and knotted the score at 16-16 after a 4-0 run. The Saints were undeterred, however, and wrapped up the set with a 3-0 run behind Olson's service.
The second set was tight early on, but MU used a four-point burst late to seize control. The run was spurred on by freshman Nick Mariel, who registered a pair of kills and a block to give the Saints a 22-17 edge. Kelty brought the set to a close at 25-19 with back-to-back kills.
With the momentum fully on their side, the Blue and White jumped all over the Yellow Jackets to open the final set. Marymount raced out to a 17-7 lead, which grew to 24-11 after a service ace from John Quinlan. Randolph-Macon attempted a comeback and pulled within four, but Zach Jayes tallied the final kill to give MU a 25-20 win.
The Saints return to action on Saturday, March 27, when they wrap-up CVC pod play with a pair of matches on the road against Juniata College. The first contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
