ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Marymount University women's swimming team competed in a quad-dual meet on Saturday with St. Mary's College of Maryland, Cabrini University, and Immaculata University, defeating Immaculata, 157-36, and Cabrini, 116-87.
It marked the first time in program history that the Saints took down Cabrini.
The team began the day with a second-place effort in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior Delaney Carey, sophomores Arianna Koerner and Caryn Sanclementi, and freshman Maddy Schirching teamed for a time of 1:58.94, which ranked first against both Cabrini and Immaculata.
Sophomore Isabella Ochalik picked up a second-place overall finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:10.31, finishing first over St. Mary's and Immaculata. She added a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:57.95, which was first-place against Immaculata and St. Mary's.
Carey added overall second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. In both races, she took first against Cabrini and Immaculata. In the 50 free, she finished in 27.23 seconds, and in the 100 fly, she posted a time of 1:03.95.
Koerner took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.17. Her time ranked first against Cabrini and Immaculata, as well.
Matched up against Immaculata, the Saints posted the best time in each race, beginning with junior Ellen Bryce in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 13:01.27.
Sanclementi took first against the Mighty Macs in the 200-yard individual medley (2:31.93), while Schirching and junior Madison Grubb did so in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.99) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.46), respectively.
The team ended with another strong showing in a relay, with Koerner, Ochalik, Bryce, and sophomore Grace Tarantino taking second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:51.55. The time, again, was first against Cabrini and Immaculata.
Marymount will return to action on Saturday, November 6 in a double-dual meet against Marywood University and Cedar Crest College. The meet is set for 1 p.m.
