Marymount Swimming Prevails at Atlantic East Championships, Men and Women Win Team Titles

Day One Recap

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Marymount swimming program kicked off the Atlantic East Championships on Friday evening, grabbing some gold and breaking some records in the early going. 

Team Scores
  • After the first day, the men currently sit atop the standings with 205 points.
  • The women also head into day two with a lead, sitting at 227 points.
Relay Finishes Individual Finishes
  • Dittlinger grabbed an individual gold in the women's 50 yard freestyle event with a time of 25.28. 
  • Alexander Hain picked up a second place finish in the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:44.10, breaking a program record. 
  • Maddi Vlattas finished second in the women's 200 yard individual medley (2:13.91), with Srun coming in right behind in third (2:16.08).
  • Cairns finished in second for the men's 200 yard individual medley event with a time of 1:58.71. Faherty finished third in the event, notching a time of 1:59.96.
  • Hawkins picked up silver in the women's 50 yard freestyle (25.89).
  • Hicks finished third in the men's 50 yard freestyle (21.94).

Day Two Recap

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.
 - Marymount swimming held onto their lead in day two of the Atlantic East Championships on Saturday, breaking records yet again along the way. 

Team Scores
  • After day two, the men's program sits atop the standings with a score of 513.
  • The women are much the same, standing strongly in first with a score of 502, holding a 90 point lead.
Relay Top Finishes
  • To finish off the night, the men's 800 yard freestyle relay team of Trevor CairnsRyan FahertyLaine Eary, and Alexander Hain put up an impressive race. Finishing with a time of 7:02.28, they set a new team record by 12 seconds, a new championship meet record by 10 seconds, and a new conference record by nine seconds. Down to the wire, freshman Hain beat out the final swimmer of Cabrini to take home the gold. 
  • The women's 800 yard freestyle relay team of Maddi VlattasTidawee SrunIsabella Ochalik, and Ilana Hawkins took home the gold with a finishing time of 8:21.15.
  • The women's 200 yard medley relay team of Arianna Koerner, Srun, Delaney Carey, and Brooke Dittlinger grabbed gold with a time of 1:50.77, just narrowly missing the conference meet record. 
  • The men's 200 yard medley relay team, consisting of four freshmen in Hain, Faherty, Carsten Hicks, and Justin Singletary set a team, conference, and championship meet record with a finishing time of 1:35.81.
Individual Top Finishes
  • MU swept the podium in the women's 100 yard breaststroke, with Srun taking gold (1:06.73), Vlattas grabbing silver (1:08.16), and Rebecca Lazerson notching bronze (1:08.65).
  • Hain, continuing his successful championship meet, notched a gold in the 100 yard backstroke (52.30). Teammate Ethan White picked up silver in the same event (55.57).
  • Marymount took gold and silver in the women's 100 yard butterfly with Carey in first (1:00.39) and Dittlinger notching second (1:02.26).
  • Freshman Hicks picked up silver in the men's 100 yard butterfly, notching a time of 50.75, a new program record. 
  • Cairns notched silver in the men's 200 yard freestyle (1:45.03).
  • Koerner picked up a silver finish in the women's 100 yard backstroke (1:03.31), with teammate Ella DeNicola narrowly missing a bronze finish at 1:03.59, still picking up quality points for the Saints.

Day Three Recap

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Marymount swimming program never looked back across the three day Atlantic East Championships, coming out on top at the end by taking both the men's and women's AEC Titles. 

This is the first Atlantic East Conference Championship Titles for both the men and women. 

Team Scores
  • The men took the title with a final score of 713, 98 points above the second place finishing team.
  • The women dominated the meet, finishing first with a final scoring of 771, with the closest score behind at 609. 
Relay Top Finishes Individual Top Finishes
  • Cairns notched a gold finish in the men's 200 yard backstroke event with a finals time of 1:57.95.
  • Srun nabbed gold in the women's 200 yard breaststroke with a finals time of 2:24.76.
  • Isabella Ochalik picked up the top spot in the women's 200 yard butterfly (2:23.39), while also finishing silver in the 1650 yard freestyle (19:59.32).
  • Ella DeNicola finished bronze in the women's 200 yard backstroke, notching a time of 2:17.61.
  • Ethan White finished third in the men's 200 yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:00.33.
  • Carey (56.00) and Dittlinger (56.29) finished silver and bronze in the women's 100 yard freestyle.
  • Maddi Vlattas notched silver in the women's 200 yard breaststroke (2:28.17).
  • Faherty picked up bronze in the men's 200 yard breaststroke (2:11.85).
  • Ilana Hawkins finished third in the women's 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:24.98.
  • Hain finished silver in the men's 200 yard butterfly (1:55.37).
