Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Marymount University men's lacrosse team slipped to Catholic University in a non-conference rivalry Wednesday evening, 18-4.
The Cardinals' faceoff game and defense played key in the game, holding the Saints to just nine shots through the first half. Of the five that were on target, Catholic's Nic Pezone managed to make saves on each. During that stretch of time, the Cardinal offense built up a comfortable advantage by the half, 14-0.
In the third quarter, it was an offensive drought for both squads, although the Saints outshot the Cardinals, 10-4, through the 15-minute stretch. Of those 10 shots for MU, the 10th was the first to make it past the keeper when freshman Will Strausbaugh went unassisted with one second left on the clock.
An evenly-matched fourth quarter had the two teams sending out 11 shots each. For the Saints, they found the back of the net three more times, as junior Jonah Mackiewicz and sophomores Troy Tangolics and Hunter Ralston all scored one.
Sophomore Brandon Hall protected between the pipes for 56:20 of the contest, making 17 saves.
The Saints head home for their first game on their own turf on Saturday, February 29, hosting St. Vincent College at Long Bridge Park. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
