Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - The Marymount University men's lacrosse team fell in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Shenandoah University, dropping a 16-11 decision.
A low-scoring first quarter had the Saints trailing by just one through the first 15 minutes, 2-1. The Hornets found the back of the net on the first two goals, scoring both in the sixth minute. Less than two minutes later, junior Clark Akers caught a pass from freshman Chris Clark for the Saints' first finish.
A man-up opportunity for Shenandoah pushed the lead back to two to start the second quarter, but Marymount responded with three-straight finishes over the next five minutes to take its first advantage of the game. Sophomores Troy Tangolics and Hunter Ralston went unassisted on back-to-back goals to draw the game even, and Akers found Tangolics at the 8:51 mark on a man-up shot to take the 4-3 lead.
Before the half, the Hornets reclaimed the lead with two goals and followed with three more to start the third quarter.
Ralston halted the run in the third with his second goal of the game before Tangolics solidified his hat trick with an unassisted goal to get within two, 8-6.
Marymount and Shenandoah continued to battle with goals back-and-forth over the remainder of the contest, but the Saints couldn't overcome their slim deficit.
Akers lead the offense with four points for the day, also notching a hat trick of goals to go with an assist. Defensively, junior Cole Kocovsky registered a game-high three caused turnovers, while junior Luke DeWitt had a team-high four ground balls.
Sophomore Brandon Hall tended the net for over 58 minutes of the contest, making 12 saves.
The Saints continue on the road Wednesday, February 26, crossing the Potomac River for a matchup with Catholic University. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
