ARLINGTON, Va – The Marymount University men's soccer team hosted the Monarchs of Methodist University Saturday afternoon at Long Bridge Park, falling in a close game, 3-1.

The Monarchs came out of the gate fast; just 59 seconds after the first whistle, they found the back of the net and an early advantage.

Eleven minutes later, junior Ridwaan Robinson was awarded a penalty kick. With a chance to tie the game, the Monarchs' goalkeeper guessed correctly and was there for the save.

With six minutes remaining in the half, the Monarchs found the back of the net again to take a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

At the break, Marymount lead in shots, 7-5, while both goalies recorded one save apiece.

To open the second half, freshman Leonardo Luna got his shot off to beat the Monarchs' goalkeeper. Luna cut the deficit to one just four minutes after the opening whistle. 

As both teams battled for possession and attempts on goal, Methodist found the back of the net one last time in the 62nd minute to end the day's scoring.

With 20 minutes left to play, freshman Derek Rivera attempted to cut into Methodist's lead, but Cole Hupp made a diving effort to deny the freshman of his goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Eduardo Cardonne and sophomore Ronald Clark split the work load for todays game. Each in net for one half, Cardonne finished the first half with one save. 

The men's soccer team hits the road for its first Atlantic East Conference matchup Wednesday, October 9 to face off against the Mighty Macs of Immaculata; kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
