ARLINGTON, Va. – The No. 8 Marymount men's volleyball team broke the tie atop the West Division of the Continental Volleyball Conference on Friday night, finishing off the season sweep of Eastern Mennonite University with the second 3-0 decision over the Royals. 

The Saints (16-6) move to 7-2 in league play with Friday night's victory, while EMU falls to 8-3. 

All three sets were close battles with two of the games being decided by two points and the middle being a five-point difference. Defense and errors played a big factor in the final result, as the Saints hit .172 for the match and the Royals went .062. There were a combined 42 attack errors and 28 service errors by the two squads. 

However, the Saints remained composed putting down 40 kills compared to the 21 by EMU. Senior TJ Wiechecki notched a match-high 12 kills, while junior Eric Wiles and sophomore Sam Safley added nine apiece. 

Junior Remington Shahan shined for the match, slamming down seven kills on nine attempts for a .778 kill percentage. 

Senior Erich Bratke commanded the court with a match-high 37 assists, as he remains the front runner in the conference for assists per set with 10.37. 

The Saints continue league play with a critical division matchup on Saturday, March 24 against No. 11 Southern Virginia in the Verizon Sports Arena. The Knights topped Marymount, 3-0, in the first half of the season on their home court. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
