Akers Totals Career-High Six Points in 13-10 Loss at Bridgewater (Va.)

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. - In just his second collegiate game, Marymount men's lacrosse freshman Clark Akers scored a career-high six points with four goals and two assists, but Bridgewater outscored the Saints 7-2 in the second half en route to a 13-10 victory Saturday at Jopson Athletic Complex.

The Saints (1-2) have scored at least 10 goals in four of their last six games dating back to last season.

After trailing 4-3 after the first quarter, Marymount outscored the Eagles 5-2 in the second to take an 8-6 halftime lead. Akers totaled four of his six points in the opening half with three goals and one assist. With the game tied at 6-6, he scored back-to-back goals over the final 2:46 to give the Saints the lead, scoring the last one with just one second remaining in the second.

The first half featured five ties and three lead changes as Marymount built a two-goal lead. However, Bridgewater scored the first four goals of the second in a span of 4:50 to take a 10-8 advantage before Akers found senior Brent Sulhoff with 5:10 remaining in the third quarter to pull the Saints back within one at 10-9.

That would be as close as Marymount would get as the Eagles scored three of the game's final four goals over the last 15:26 to hold on for the win.

Sulhoff finished two goals while senior Nathan Beard had one goal and one assist. Junior Hunter McGeeney led the Saints with three caused turnovers while senior Brendan Wickline had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Junior Christian Lutz won 16-of-27 faceoffs while junior Grey Clarkson made six saves.

Marymount held a 31-25 advantage in shots, but Bridgewater's Kevin Metzger had 13 saves.

The Saints travel across town to Catholic on Wednesday for a 6 p.m., clash with the Cardinals.
