Lions make late rally, Sink Saints in non-conference matchup

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – Two four-goal periods by Albright College, including three straight to end the game, sunk the Marymount University men's lacrosse team, 9-7, on Wednesday night at Long Bridge Park in a non-conference matchup.

The Saints (1-1) got out to a great start, putting away three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 advantage into the second. Senior Brent Sulhoff got the scoring started off a dish by junior Sean Friedman, before senior Nathan Beard and junior Matthew Ebert followed with unassisted finishes.

The Lions (1-1) found life in the second quarter, outscoring Marymount, 4-1, to send the game to the half all knotted up at 4-4. Sandwiched between the four goals by Albright was another goal by Beard off Friedman's second assist of the night.

In the third, the two squads traded a goal apiece, as Ebert scored his second unassisted goal of the game to send the game into the final frame at 5-5.

Albright gained the early advantage with a goal just nine seconds into the restart to take the one-goal lead. However, the Saints took over the momentum over the next eight minutes, answering with back-to-back goals by Friedman and Sulhoff to regain the advantage at 7-6.

In the final six minutes, the Lions erased the deficit and put away three-straight goals for the 9-7 decision.

For the second-straight game, Friedman paced the Saints on the offensive end with four points off a goal and three assists, while Ebert, Beard and Sulhoff each added two goals. On the defensive end, junior Hunter McGeeney battled out for half of the caused turnovers for the Saints, registering four for the second-straight game, while senior John Williamson and junior Dalton Smolens led the ground ball game with five and four, respectively.

Junior Grey Clarkson took the first loss of the season in the net, tending for the full 60 minutes and making 11 saves.

The Saints hit the road for their next two games, traveling to Bridgewater (Va.) on Saturday, February 24 for a 1 p.m., start time.
