Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – An early lead for the Marymount men's soccer team was erased midway through the second half, as Christendom College earned the double-overtime decision on Wednesday night at Long Bridge Park, 2-1.
It didn't take long for the Saints to put the first goal on the board, with juniors Marc Mendoza and Mynor Danilo Lopez connecting in the fifth minute off a cross to the top of the box and finish inside the left post to take the 1-0 lead.
The offense continued to blister off shots, totaling 24 through regulation compared to the nine by the Crusaders, but the only other goal to find the back of the net in the 90-minute span was by Christendom in the 69th minute to draw the score even and send the match into overtime.
Through the first 10-minute overtime, the Saints controlled much of the ball with four shots including two on target by freshman Ridwaan Robinson and junior Sebastian Hendi, but nothing made it past the gloves of Crusader keeper Carlos Pardo.
In the second overtime, the Saints again got a pair of shots off, but the decision was made with three minutes left in the contest when the Crusaders split the defense and found the back of the net for the 2-1 win.
The men will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel down 95 to the University of Mary Washington to open Capital Athletic Conference play. First touch is slated for 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, September 23.
