FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A third-quarter rally for the Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse came up short on Saturday afternoon, falling to the University of Mary Washington, 15-10, in the Capital Athletic Conference matchup.

It was a slow start for the Saints, falling into a 10-1 hole through the first half, seeing the only goal come from a connection between junior Nathan Beard and senior Kellen McCarthy to open the second period.

However, Marymount didn't go down without a fight, coming out of the half with a fire lit. Through the 15-minute stretch, the Saints put away six-unanswered goals while the defense didn't give up any to the Eagles to get back within three, 10-7. 

Beard scored twice to pace the Saints in the quarter, while senior Shoshone Smith, juniors John Williamson and Brent Sulhoff and sophomore Matthew Ebert each added one. 

Unfortunately, the Eagles hit a run of their own to open the final quarter, scoring three straight before Ebert cut off the stretch. Mary Washington would add two more in a three-minute span to take a 15-8 advantage. Smith and Williamson cashed in on two more goals in the closing minutes, but the deficit was too much for MU to overcome. 

On the defensive end, senior Nathaniel Valenti caused a game-high four turnovers, while Beard scooped up a team-high five ground balls to go along with his three-point day. 

Sophomore Grey Clarkson tended the net for the full 60 minutes, making 16 saves. 

The Saints conclude the season with a 5-11 overall record, 2-6 in CAC play.
