Sulhoff's career day guides Saints in blistering victory

Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – Behind a career evening by junior Brent Sulhoff, the Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse team notched its second-straight win on Wednesday, powering past Beloit College, 18-6, at Long Bridge Park.

Sulhoff was one of 13 Saints on Wednesday evening to register at least a point in the matchup, putting away a career- and game-high five goals. He was joined by a five-point effort by sophomore Matthew Ebert, while senior Kellen McCarthy and junior Nathan Beard added four points each.

The Saints fired off shots early and often against the Buccaneers, building up a 6-1 advantage through the first 15 minutes. Senior Shoshone Smith put MU on the board first roughly three minutes into the game before McCarthy found Beard several minutes later to push the 2-0 lead.

Beloit answered on an unassisted finish, but the Saints rolled up the score with four-unanswered goals to push a heavy momentum heading into the second period. In the stretch, Sulhoff notched two including a man-up opportunity while senior Nick Hohman won a clean faceoff and pushed down the field for a quick unassisted finish and McCarthy capped off the quarter with his first goal of the game.

Ebert notched his first goal to open the second quarter, while Sulhoff caught passes from senior Nathaniel Valenti and sophomore Hunter McGeeney for two more finishes to send the Saints into the half up, 9-2.

The Saints continued to push the lead through the second half, seeing seven different players find the back of the net. The game was capped off with Ebert sending a pass in front of the crease to freshman Michael Burns for his first collegiate goal and an 18-6 victory.

In the net, three different Saints saw time, with sophomore Grey Clarkson earning the win after tending for the full first half for five saves. Sophomore Patrick Ruleman started off the the second half for five saves in 24:24 of play, while freshman Kyle Dinsmore finished out the game for his first two collegiate saves.

The men continue their three-game home stand on Saturday, March 11, hosting Lebanon Valley College at Long Bridge Park. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
