LATROBE, Pa. – An 11-goal second half was more than enough for the Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse team to register its first win of the season, cruising past St. Vincent College on Saturday afternoon, 14-7. 

The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first, scoring in the first minute and a half, but it only took 14 seconds after that for the Saints to draw it even. Following a clean faceoff win by senior Nick Hohman, he brought the ball into the offensive third and found senior Kellen McCarthy for the quick finish and a 1-1 score. 

A few minutes later, junior Dylan Watkins dished off a pass to sophomore Sean Friedman for the goal and the 2-1 lead. However, St. Vincent added one more before the first break to send the game into the second period, 2-2. 

Friedman connected with junior Nathan Beard on the restart to put Marymount back ahead, but the Bearcats found the back of the net two more times to take a 4-3 advantage into the half. 

The second half was all Marymount, tacking on five-unanswered goals in the third quarter to put the Saints up 8-4, a momentum swing that held for the remainder of the contest. In the stretch, Beard notched two man-up goals, while freshman Michael Posey, junior John Williamson, and Watkins all added a finish apiece. 

Not much changed in the fourth, seeing the Saints bolster six more goals while the Bearcats scored just three times. Watkins and Friedman each tacked on another goal to their stat line, while seniors Nathaniel Valenti and Shoshone Smith, junior Daniel Bothwell, and sophomore Dylan Handel each found the net once. 

The Saints won the faceoff game, 15-7, seeing Hohman win eight and sophomore Christian Lutz get seven. 

In the net, sophomore Patrick Ruleman earned his first collegiate win, tending the net for the second half for four saves. 

The Saints return home on Wednesday, March 8, for another non-conference matchup, taking on Beloit. First faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
