Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – Three career firsts guided the Marymount women's soccer team to its first Capital Athletic Conference victory of the season on Tuesday night, taking a 3-2 win over Wesley College at Long Bridge Park.
Junior Madison Grehawick, sophomore Jennifer McKee and freshman Sita Nair all tallied their first collegiate goals in the effort, as the Saints jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through the first half.
The first goal was put away in the 21st minute when sophomore defender Maddie Alexander sent a cross in from the left side of the field. Inside the 18-yard box, Grehawick collected the ball in front of the net and shoved it into the right side for the 1-0 lead.
Less than eight minutes later, the second one went in. Following a ripped shot on target by sophomore Karen Reyes, the deflection by the keeper made its way back into Reyes' feet. Pushing the ball back to the top of the 18-yard box, it met the feet of Nair who took one touch and sent a shot in the right side of the goal.
Seven more shots were taken over the next 15 minutes before the eighth shot pushed a 3-0 advantage.
This time on a set piece in the 44th minute, sophomore Makayla Dulac sent a corner kick from the right side of the field toward the back post. Cutting in on the play, McKee connected with a header on the cross, sending the redirection into the right side of the net.
Although the Saints outshot the Wolverines in the second half, 14-4, two of the four shots by Wesley would make it into the goal to cut the deficit to one, 3-2. But that's as close as they would get, as the Saints held out for the final decision.
Junior Sydney Sherman earned her second win of the season in the net, making three saves in her 90 minutes of work.
The women will continue home conference play on Friday, October 6 when they host St. Mary's College of Maryland at Long Bridge Park. First touch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
