Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – On a rainy Wednesday night at Long Bridge Park, the offensive intensity was still very much alive for the Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team, building up a 6-0 decision over Washington Adventist University for its second-straight shutout victory.
Leading the way for the Saints was senior forward Kirsten Campbell, putting away the first two goals of the game in the initial 25 minutes. The first came on a perfect pass from senior Chloe McAuliffe from the right side of the 18-yard box, meeting the foot of Campbell on the back post for the tap in.
By the 25th minute, Campbell connected again, this time dibbling in for the unassisted finish on the left side of the box.
Following Campbell's second goal just four minutes later was the third of the game, this time by sophomore Brooke Hillenbrand. Several attempts in the box were all deflected, with the last one rolling its way to the left side of the field where Hillenbrand quickly closed in on the ball, blasting a hard-ripped shot past the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper for the comfortable 3-0 lead.
It didn't take much longer for the Saints to put away goal number four, less than two minutes to be exact. Again inside the 18-yard box, freshman Gretal Bonilla took another deflection at the top of the box for a low finish through traffic to push the MU advantage to four for the half.
In the opening seven minutes of the second half, the Saints sealed up the match with two more goals. Freshmen Alyssa Baca and Courtney Stephens connected on a cross from the right end line for Stephens' second collegiate goal, before Stephens dished out an assist six minutes later to sophomore transfer Madison Grehawick at the top of the box for a high shot over the keeper's gloves.
The Saints fired off 22 shots in the contest with 10 on target. The MU defense held strong for the entire 90 minutes, led by senior Sarah Lloyd, Hillenbrand and freshmen Maddie Alexander and Gabby Cabrales. For the entirety of the game, junior Sydney Schultz saw one attempt come her way, registering the save for her first shutout win as a Saint goalkeeper.
The women will remain home for their next matchup, taking on Randolph College on Saturday, September 10 at Long Bridge Park. First touch is set for 2 p.m.
