Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sweeping the competition on Friday evening, the Marymount (Va.) University women's volleyball team capped off the 10th Annual Worthington Classic on Saturday afternoon, splitting its two matches for a 3-1 weekend in the tournament hosted by Gallaudet University.

The Saints opened the day against a very good Messiah College squad, falling in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19). The women rallied in the final match of the day, taking down Misericordia University, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18).

Marymount vs. Messiah

Although the Falcons took all three sets, each remained close in a defensive battle at the net. With 84 digs total in the match between the two squads, the Saints saw six different players register multiple digs led by freshman libero Theresa Buscemi and sophomore Caroline Hanson with nine apiece. On the offensive end, junior Cailyn Thomas was a force at the net, posting an impressive .467 kill percentage to lead the way with a team-high 11 kills. Junior Christine Tieman set up Thomas and the rest of the Saint offense with a match-high 35 assists.

The Saints will have their opportunity for redemption against Messiah on Saturday, October 29, as they host a tri-match with the Falcons and reigning Capital Athletic Conference champion Christopher Newport University in the Verizon Sports Arena on Marymount's campus. The match against the Falcons is also labeled as Senior Day as well.

Marymount vs. Misericordia

Marymount turned things around against Misericordia in its second match of the day, dominating the Cougars in a three-set sweep. MU controlled all three sets offensively, registering 37 kills, led by senior Emileigh Rettig, who notched a match-high 10 kills. Thomas remained a force to be reckoned with, posting an additional eight kills and an .800 kill percentage. Rettig also played tenacious defense to lead the Saints with a match-high 10 digs. The blue and white outplayed the Cougars on the defensive end, scooping up 17 more digs.

The Saints return to action on Wednesday, September 28, as they open up conference play on the road at St. Mary's College of Maryland. First serve is set for 7 p.m., in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center Arena.
