FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team kicked off the 2016 campaign at the University of Mary Washington's Soccer Classic, falling behind late to Stockton University to drop a 3-1 decision. 

Marymount got an early jump on Stockton, finding the back of the net in the 17th minute off the foot of sophomore Mynor Lopez. The Osprey put up a fight though, firing off six shot over the remainder of the first half while not allowing another Saint attempt. Off the six attempts, three were on target, but nothing freshman goalkeeper John Valcicak couldn't pull in. 

The second half, the Saints sat in and worked on maintaining the tempo, holding the 1-0 lead all the away to the 75th minute. Stockton eventually found an opportunity to put away the equalizer off a corner-kick header finish by Osprey Jeff Tanski. 

Valcicak continued to see action between the posts over the next few minutes, as the Osprey sent off three more attempt, all of which were pulled in by the freshman, but the fourth found the back of the net to give Stockton the advantage for the first time all match in the 79th minute. 

In the closing 10 minutes, the Saints were unable to find an opportunity on the offensive end. In the final minute of play, Stockton sealed up the match with one more to take a 3-1 decision. 

Although Valcicak recorded the loss in the net in his first collegiate start, the freshman still reeled in six attempts in his full 90 minutes between the pipes. 

The Saints will take the turf again on Saturday for round two of the tournament, as they take on Averett University. The match is set for 3:30 p.m.
