Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse team hosted the University of Mary Washington for senior day on Saturday afternoon for a Capital Athletic Conference matchup, falling behind early to drop an 11-4 decision.
Prior to the start of the game, the Saints honored their eight graduating seniors on their careers donning the blue and white: Greg Garner, Maxwell Johnson, Nathan Hupp, Jeremy Jones, Matt Justice, Mike Kempel, Brian Robbins, and Michael Stidham.
The Eagles jumped ahead to a five-goal advantage in the first quarter before sophomore Daniel Bothwell attempted to bring life to the Saints' offense with his fourth goal of his career. Following a won faceoff by junior Nick Hohman, Bothwell scooped the loose ball and hustled into the offensive third. Not slowing down or looking anywhere but at the goal, the long-stick midfielder slung a hard-ripped shot right past the Eagle goalkeeper for Marymount's first goal of the game.
The second quarter saw the scoring come on the Eagles' offensive end, notching four more goals before the half to take a 9-1 advantage into the break.
The third quarter didn't see much scoring from either side, seeing the Eagles put away the first goal followed by the Saints cashing in one at the 7:36 mark. Sophomore Nathan Beard dished off a pass to freshman Bryan Mcmanus who shoved a shot top-left shelf on the man-up opportunity.
The tight-corner finish ignited some Saints' offense headed into the final quarter, as Marymount added two more goals to the run on a Justice unassisted finish and Mcmanus finding junior Kellen McCarthy on the final goal of the game for MU.
On the defensive end, Bothwell and sophomore Brent Sulhoff each registered a team-high five groundballs while freshman John Kailunas III added four to go along with his game-high three caused turnovers.
Kempel and freshman Grey Clarkson split time in the net, turning away four and seven shots, respectively.
The Saints conclude the season with 5-9 overall record, 1-7 in league play.
