Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's lacrosse team hopped back into the win column on Saturday afternoon, collecting its fifth road victory of the season with a 12-4 decision over Arcadia University.
The Saints (5-5) never trailed in the contest, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening two minutes. Freshman Sean Friedman got the scoring started for MU, cashing in on an unassisted finish 46 seconds into the game, before sending out the assist on the next goal to senior Matt Justice.
The Knights responded with two goals of their own by the end of the first quarter to take a 2-2 draw into the second 15-minute stretch where the Saint gathered a two-goal lead by halftime with three-straight goals. Sophomore Nathan Beard teamed up with freshman Matthew Ebert and Justice on two goals that sandwiched a finish by freshman Bryan Mcmanus. Arcadia found the back of the net with 33 seconds left to trail MU at the break, 5-3.
The third quarter was quite similar to the second, seeing the Saints piece together another three-goal run before Arcadia tacked on one by the time the 15-minute stretch came to a close. Beard connected with senior Maxwell Johnson on the initial goal, while seniors Michael Stidham and Nathan Hupp followed with the next. Johnson found Mcmanus on the final goal in the run to push an 8-3 advantage before the Knights added their fourth goal of the game.
Marymount capped off the strong offensive day with a 4-0 fourth quarter, with Ebert notching two more goals, Mcmanus adding another and Johnson contributing the fourth.
The Saints were paced by two hat-trick performances by Ebert and Mcmanus, while Johnson and Justice tallied two goals apiece. Beard created a third of the offense with his game-high four assists.
Senior Mike Kempel earned the win in the net, turning away 10 shots in his 60 minutes of action.
The men are back in action on Saturday, April 2, as they travel home to host Salisbury University for a Capital Athletic Conference tilt. First faceoff is set for 1 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
