Box Score ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Marymount men's soccer team hit the road for another Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling to St. Mary's College of Maryland, 2-0.
Freshman goalkeeper John Valcicak was put to work early by the Seahawks, reeling in his first save of the match just over two minutes in. Unfortunately, the second one a few minutes later would get past the freshman's gloves as St. Mary's grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the sixth minute.
The Saints were able to get off a few shots of their own following the Seahawk finish, including one on target by sophomore Jesse Parada. Later in the half, back-to-back shots found the gloves of Seahawk goalkeeper Zack Haussler, seeing sophomore Marc Mendoza and senior Ahmed El-manialawy fire off shots in the 28th and 29th minutes, respectively.
Right before the end of the half, St. Mary's struck again, connecting on a cross in the 44th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Looking to build their way back into the game, the Saints came out firing to start the second half, getting off two shots off in the first two minutes. Mendoza put one on target but was shoved away by Haussler before sophomore Brandon Orozco sent an attempt just wide.
The Seahawks went on the offense following that stretch by MU, as Valcicak came up big for the Saints with three-straight saves to hold St. Mary's at a two-goal advantage.
In the 68th minute, the freshman keeper continued to impress, making a great save on a penalty kick by Nick Tait, a Seahawk striker that currently leads the league in goals.
Valcicak stopped a few more good shots to notch a new career-high nine saves, before time expired on the clock.
The men will travel to CAC opponent Salisbury University, on Wednesday October 12. First touch is set for 4 p.m.
