Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – A heartbreaker ending for the Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team on Wednesday night, as a two-goal comeback by the Saints resulted in a tough 3-2 defeat in overtime in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup against Wesley College at Long Bridge Park.
Trailing the Wolverines through the first 45 minutes, 2-0, Marymount rallied back in the second half with two goals to draw the score even and send the match into extra time.
The first goal came in the 63rd minute when freshman Vicente Luna Rivera sent a ball up to sophomore Andre Ferguson who was all by himself on the left side of the 18-yard box. Drawing out the goalkeeper, Ferguson chipped it up over the diving keeper for his first goal of the season.
The Saints continued to battle for that second goal all the way up to the final minute. With the 10-second countdown being announced over the speaker system, the blue and white found their opportunity on a counterattack. Sophomore Jose Ormeno found a hole at midfield where he sent the ball through the backline when it met the foot of senior Ahmed El-manialawy. A two-on-one scenario with the senior and sophomore Brandon Orozco, the last Wesley defender found himself in a jam. El-manialawy drew the defender his direction, giving a quick pass over at the top of the 18 to a wide open Orozco. With quick precision, Orozco sent the ball into the back of the net with just three seconds left in regulation to send the game into extra time.
Unfortunately, the Wolverines earned the first opportunity in overtime less than three minutes in. A cross for the right side of the box met the foot of Wesley's Will Mileski who took two touches and sent in a shot into the lower right side of the net for the game winner.
The Saints will look to rebound on Saturday, October 8, as they hit the road for another conference tilt at St. Mary's College of Maryland. First touch is set for 2 p.m.
