Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team traveled down to the Eastern Shore of Maryland on Wednesday afternoon for a Capital Athletic Conference matchup, falling 2-0 to Salisbury University.
The Saints saw an early opportunity to take a 1-0 lead, with senior Ahmed El-manialawy plastering a hard-ripped shot off the crossbar in the fourth minute. MU would get off another opportunity a few minutes later off the foot of sophomore Andre Ferguson, but this one was pulled in by Sea Gull goalkeeper Robert Fiackos.
Freshman goalkeeper John Valcicak was put to action by the 13th minute, pulling in back-to-back saves, but the Sea Gulls eventually struck first in the 17th minute off a finish by Nick Carrington.
For the remainder of the first half, the Saints managed to get off one more shot, but the score would hold at 1-0 at the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Salisbury capitalized on a cross and header finish to push a 2-0 advantage, which would hold up for the rest of regulation.
Sophomore Brandon Orozco, senior Chris Lionette and Ferguson all saw opportunities to get the Saints on the board, but the shots were either blocked or pulled in by Fiackos.
Valcicak registered three saves in his 90 minutes tending the net.
The Saints return home on Saturday, October 15 for senior day, as they host Penn State University-Harrisburg for another conference tilt. First touch is set for 4 p.m., at Long Bridge Park.
