Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Va.— In a tri-match on Saturday afternoon, the Marymount (Va.) University women's volleyball team swept the competition, going 2-0 on the day. The Saints took down Virginia Wesleyan College in four sets, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-13) and conquered host Washington and Lee University in four sets, 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 25-18).
Head Coach Beth Ann Wilson continues her career run, notching her 405th win at the helm of the program. Wilson is now tied with the current Capital Athletic Conference leader in all-time overall wins, Salisbury University's former Head Coach Margie Knight.
Marymount vs. Virginia Wesleyan
The Saints took the Marlins in four sets after getting off to a promising start. In set one, MU finished off VWU on a 3-0 run, after registering three-straight kills by senior Emileigh Rettig and sophomore Caroline Hanson. It was a team effort as Marymount registered 20 more kills than Virginia Wesleyan, and the Saints saw six different players put away multiple kills.
Rettig led the offense, notching a match-high 13 kills, followed by senior Cailyn Thomas, who added 11 kills and a .346 hitting percentage. Hanson and junior Christine Tieman commanded the court adding 22 and 20 assists, respectively. Marymount's defense looked strong after eight different Saints were able to register multiple digs, led by Rettig with a match-high 19 digs.
Marymount vs. Washington and Lee
Junior Margaret McAlpin stepped up in game two to lead the Saints on offense, registering a match-high 17 kills and a .400 hitting percentage, while Thomas and Hanson each added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Hanson and Tieman split time in the setters position, notching 24 and 22 assists, in that order.
Rettig led the way on defense once again, picking up a match-high 17 digs, followed by freshman libero Theresa Buscemi who added 14. Hanson and sophomore Ashton Walker added three service aces apiece, as the Saints combined for nine total service aces throughout the match.
The women will come back home to host CAC-opponent Penn State University-Harrisburg on Friday, October 7. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
