Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team hosted the York College of Pennsylvania in its first Capital Athletic Conference match of the season at Long Bridge Park. As the weather predicted, it was a cloudy match for the Saints, falling in a tough fought battle, 3-0.
The York (3-4, 1-0 CAC) attack was strong all game long, with one quick goal from Jamie Sokolis in the 5th minute, and another in the 23rd minute from Emily Cronise, but that didn't dampen the opportunities for the Saints (4-5, 0-1 CAC).
In the 31st minute, Marymount saw a great chance following a foul outside the 18-yard box that lined up a free kick for junior Chloe McAuliffe. On the left side roughly 25 yards out, McAuliffe played a hard lined ball to the top right corner of the goal, but Spartan goalkeeper Kate Lutte was quick enough to pull in the attempt.
Saints' goalkeeping was similar to previous games with senior Erin Harris starting the game in goal and tending for the first 45. Following McAuliffe's attempt on goal, Harris held strong to take just a 2-0 deficit into the half making three more big saves.
Relieving Harris' duties in the cage for the remaining 45 minutes was junior Joanna Chenaille, who saved seven of the eight shots attempted on her. Harris had seven saves as well on the game.
The Saints saw one more opportunity to get on the board to cut the deficit to one in the 58th minute. Harris, playing the field at her original midfield position, played a corner to the middle of the 18. Able to get a foot on it was junior Kirsten Campbell, blasting a rocket into the crossbar.
The Spartans tacked on their final goal several minutes later to take a 3-0 victory.
The women continue conference play on Tuesday, September 29 with their first road game since September 13. They will travel to Salisbury University with first touch at 4:00 p.m.
