Box Score ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount men's soccer team opened up Capital Athletic Conference play on a rainy Saturday night, taking on Frostburg State University. The Saints garnered a one-goal advantage through the first half, but two goals by the Bobcats in the final 45 minutes gave them the 2-1 decision.
The shots came early and often for both teams, but it was Marymount (4-5, 0-1 CAC) that struck first. A foul inside the 18-yard box against the Bobcats earned the Saints a penalty kick in the 29th minute that junior Ahmed El-manialawy approached to take. Keeping the shot low, the forward sent a right-side shot past the diving hands of Frostburg goalkeeper Hassan Mostafa for the 1-0 lead.
Carrying the advantage into the break, MU outshot the Bobcats, 8-4, while also holding the edge in corner kicks, 4-3. The game flipped sides in the second half, seeing the Bobcats hold a hefty advantage in shots over the Saints, 12-2, with two finding the back of the net to earn them the victory.
The first was knocked in five minutes into the restart before the game winner was tacked on 10 minutes later.
With time ticking down, the Saints were running out of opportunities, but the chance did arise in the 82nd minute. El-manialawy, who collected the first goal of the match, sent in a hard-hit ball but this time Mostafa was able to pull it in to hold onto the 2-1 lead.
Senior Logan Cropper tended the net for the full 90 minutes, making five saves.
The men are back in action on Wednesday, September 30 for their final non-conference game of the regular season. The Saints will take the road to Patrick Henry College for a 4 p.m., start.
