Box Score 2 Harrisonburg, Va. – With strong showings from both TJ Wiechecki and Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz, the Marymount men's volleyball team refused to drop a single set on Saturday, downing Eastern Mennonite in CVC action before shutting out Rust in the nightcap. The Saints improve to 13-18 with the pair of victories.
Marymount (Va.) 3, Eastern Mennonite 0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-10)
The opener saw Wiechecki absolutely blitz the Royals as the rookie collected a match-high 16 kills in the three-set tilt – good for a .500 hitting percentage. Albert Johannson followed suit with a .294 outing on seven kills. Erich Bratke chipped in 27 assists to pace the Saints attack, while a number of players registered multiple digs in the effort.
On the net, Ksiazkiewicz proved quite the menace, posting eight block assists to lead the squad defensively. Johannson and Wiechecki each added five to round out the win.
The Saints battled the Royals through the first set, eventually gaining distance and momentum as the match continued – smothering the host 25-10 in the third to secure the shut out.
Marymount (Va.) 3, Rust 0 (25-4, 25-10, 25-8)
The nightcap saw the Saints sail past Rust as both Johannson and Ksiazkiewicz registered .625 hitting percentages. The rookie from Sweden collected six kills on just eight swings, while his sophomore counterpart notched five on the same number of attempts. Connor Choate also chipped in six kills to share match-high honors.
Once again, Ksiakiewicz could not be grounded at the net as he posted five solo denials to close out his stellar weekend.
The Saints carried over the momentum from their opening sweep, completely stifling Rust 25-4 in the first set. The Bearcats could not solve Marymount over the next two set either, combining for only 18 points over the final two frames.
Marymount returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Eastern Mennonite in CVC action. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. at Verizon Sports Arena.
