Saints Split CVC Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Arlington, Va. – The Marymount men's volleyball team split its CVC weekend bout, defeating Thiel 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 26-24) before falling to Juniata by the same result (17-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-25).  The Saints own a 6-10 record over and a 2-4 in league play.

Marymount (Va.) 3, Thiel 1
In their weekend opener against Thiel on Friday night, the Saints used tremendous momentum to swipe three consecutive sets 26-24 to close the match.  Further information will be available shortly.

#4 Juniata 3, Marymount (Va.) 1
In the Saturday night tilt against No. 4 Juniata, the Saints struggled to find their footing in the opening two sets.  It was the third set that saw Marymount string together a solid attack to eventually force a fourth.

The set proved a seesaw affair, with the squads battling point-for-point early on.  A three-point Marymount run – featuring a Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz ace and a Connor Choate kill – saw the Saints pull ahead 16-12.

A service error returned the serve to the Saints' side and another Juniata attack error allowed Marymount a five-point margin, 18-13.  The slim margin persisted until Marymount registered a pair of errors – letting the Eagles within three, 22-19.

The Saints used two kills from Connor Choate and TJ Wiechecki to round out the set, though another Juniata attack error proved the deciding point.

Marymount seemed spent after the taxing third-set battle, relinquishing the fourth and final set 25-15 when all was said and done.

Ksiazkiewics paced the Marymount offense with his .304 hitting percentage and his team-high ten kills.  Albert Johannson and Graham Clark each chipped in eight kills apiece to round out the attack.  On the defensive end, Johannson and libero Jordan Pawlicki proved the anchors, registering ten and nine digs, respectively.  Clark also had his hand in eight blocks on the night.

For the Eagles, Joe Bortak posted an impressive 14 kills on a .310 hitting percentage.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Stevenson for a CVC midweek showdown.  Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
