Box Score DOVER, Del. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's volleyball team continued to roll in Capital Athletic Conference play on Friday night, traveling to Wesley College for a three-set sweep, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22). With the victory, the Saints move to 15-5 for the season and 3-0 in league play.
Wesley took an early lead until the Saints battled back to tie the game at 7-7 off a kill from senior Morgan McAlpin. The teams would rally back-and-forth until the Saints grabbed the final lead of the set at 16-14. Set one would end off back-to-back kills from junior Mallory Mitchell and Morgan, respectively, for the 25-19 victory.
Marymount would strike first in set two, with a kill from Morgan to take the 1-0 lead, a lead that wouldn't be surrendered. The Saints extended their lead to 8-3 after kills from junior Emileigh Rettig and sophomore Christine Tieman, along with an ace from Rettig.
Rettig would lead a 5-0 run later in the set with two kills combined with a kill from junior Cailyn Thomas. The set finished in Marymount's favor after a kill from Morgan, sealing it up at 25-19 again.
Set three began with an early 6-2 lead for MU. The Wolverines didn't back down though, battling back to tie the game twice, at 14-14 and 18-18. Rettig had a set high of six kills, while Morgan and junior Hannah Steger also added five kills for the Saints. Morgan ended the set with a kill fed from freshman Caroline Hanson for the 25-22 decision and the three-set sweep.
The women will travel back home to continue league play against St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday, October 14. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
