Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's volleyball team hit the road for the last time in the regular season on Wednesday night, falling to Salisbury University, 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 18-25, 14-25), in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt.
Although the Saints (18-8, 5-3 CAC) dropped the first set, they rallied back to draw the match even at a game apiece with a strong second. A kill by junior Cailyn Thomas opened up the set, as Marymount grabbed the early lead and never surrendered it for the remainder of the set.
Falling in the first game, 25-17, to the Sea Gulls, the Saints answered with the same score in the second after kills by junior Emileigh Rettig and sophomore Margaret McAlpin sandwiched a block assist by senior Morgan McAlpin and Margaret.
Salisbury broke the match open with the next two sets to seal up the 3-1 victory.
Margaret led the Saints for the match with nine kills along with a team-high .368 kill percentage, while senior Courtney Phung led the defensive front with a match-high 12 digs. Sophomore Christine Tieman sent out a majority of the assists for Marymount, registering 19 through the four sets.
The women will now travel back home for the regular-season finale and senior day on Saturday, October 31 against the top ranked team in the league, Christopher Newport University. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
