Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Pa. –The Marymount (Va.) University men's soccer team traveled up to Middletown, Pennsylvania for a Capital Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon against Penn State University-Harrisburg, putting together a strong victory by a score of 2-0. The Saints improve their record to 7-8-1, 3-4-1 in CAC play.
Marymount's offense saw its first goal in the eighth minute, coming off the foot of junior Chris Lionette, which gave the Saints a quick advantage over the Lions. Lionette was assisted by freshman Andre Ferguson who continues his impressive steak recording a total of four assists within the last three games. The offense would remain on the attack throughout the entire first half.
Despite the Saints early 1-0 lead, they remained aggressive both on the offensive and defensive end not settling for the one-point advantage to begin the second half. While senior standout Logan Cropper only tallied four saves on the afternoon, the defense would apply heavy pressure on Penn State, making his job a little bit easier. Cropper's additional saves put him atop the conference with a total of 89 saves overall for the season in addition to making this the fourth shutout of the season.
Fast-forwarding to the second half, the Saints capitalized on a Penn State defensive error resulting in the final goal, this time coming from Arlington native, freshman Mynor Lopez, stretching their lead to 2-0. With a 2-0 advantage, the defense continued its standout performance not allowing the Lions offense any hopes of coming back.
The men return to action on Wednesday, October 28 for Senior Night, as they host Christopher Newport University in CAC action. First touch is set for 7 p.m.
