Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Marymount (Va.) University women's soccer team traveled down 95 on Saturday afternoon for a Capital Athletic Conference matchup with the University of Mary Washington, dropping a 9-0 decision.
The Eagles were on the attack early in the match, firing off two shots in the first two minutes, one getting blocked by the defense before the second one made its way into the net. The backline of the Saints slowed down UMW for an eight-minute stretch but another shot in the 11th minute spread the Eagles' lead to two.
Freshman Carolina Saavedra registered five saves in the net for Marymount before being relieved by junior Joanna Chenaille in the 28th minute. Chenaille played out the remainder of the first half, not seeing any shots come her way.
Marymount saw its first shot on target come in the 32nd minute off the foot of junior Kirsten Campbell, but the rip wasn't enough to get the Saints on the board as Mary Washington's Sara Armor pulled in the attempt.
Chenaille continued tending the net into the second half, while MU looked to put together an offensive front. Seven minutes after the break, the Saints blasted another one on target, this time from junior Lyndsie Iwata, but again the Eagles keeper pulled it in.
Chenaille registered two saves of her own before freshman Makayla Andrews tended the net for the first time in her collegiate career for the final 20 minutes of the match. Through her time in the cage, she turned away one attempt.
The women are back in action on Wednesday, October 21, as they travel to Buena Vista, Virginia for another conference tilt against Southern Virginia University. First touch is set for 5 p.m.
