Box Score Lynchburg, Va. – Marymount University's men's soccer squad struggled to halt a ruthless Randolph offense on Sunday, dropping an oppressive 5-0 decision to close out its weekend bout. The Saints skid to 0-4 with the loss.
Out of the gate, Randolph played with an incredibly high-voltage offense, always pressuring and at a very fast pace. Five different Wildcats contributed goals to the offensive onslaught – the only constant being Blake Heatherly and his three assists.
The crushing blow came just after halftime when Randolph punched in back-to-back strikes in the 50th and 51st minutes to extend the advantage to 4-0.
From there, the Saints strung together several threatening advances, but could not solve Randolph netminders CJ Stevens and Keith Griese, who combined for the shutout.
Randolph added its fifth and final tally in the 63rd minute to cap the contest's scoring efforts. From there, energy waned and neither team punctuated the final minutes with any significant attacks.
Sophomore Ahmed Elmanialawy and rookie Shawn Morrow each fired off three shots in the effort, combining for three of the Saints four on-target blasts.
Marymount returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Patrick Henry in its home opener. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Long Bridge Park.
