Regionally-Ranked Bullets Riddle Saints

Box Score

Arlington, Va. – A very strong Gettysburg squad confounded the Saints on Wednesday night, downing the Blue and White with four first-half strikes.  The 4-0 loss sinks Marymount to 2-6 on the season.

Gettysburg, having just crawled into regional rankings at the #10 mark, proved a formidable opponent for the Saints in the drizzly midweek melee.

The Bullets pressured from the get-go, not once giving the Saints a chance to retort in that opening frame.  The first crack came in the 23rd minute, when Baki Bawa found Henry Smith for a standard give-and-go to open the day's scoring efforts.

Now with the 1-0 advantage, the Gettysburg offense seemed to find its stride, striking again in the 28th minute to further extend the lead.  KJ DePontes chipped a sly pass through the Blue and White backline, finding Christian Pyros for the finish and the Bullets' second tally.

Just under ten minutes later, a flurry in front of the Marymount net resulted in a Patrick Santini goal and a 3-0 Gettysburg advantage.

The Bullets' fourth and final score came before the halftime buzzer even chimed.  Michael Farese used fancy footwork and the slick turf to slip the night's last tally just past Saints keeper Logan Cropper.

The second half saw no cease in the brisk autumn drizzle and, as a result, saw no significant action on either side of the ball.

Cropper collected seven saves in the effort, but falls to 2-6 on the year.

Marymount returns to Long Bridge Park on Saturday as it opens CAC play against Mary Washington.  Match time is set for 7 p.m.
