Box Score Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's soccer squad faced an unyielding Methodist offense on Sunday, dropping a 4-0 decision to the visiting Monarchs. The Saints fall to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
Methodist overwhelmed Marymount with its endless barrage of shots, though the flurry failed to make a truly fatal impact until the second half.
Stefan Cyvin broke the scoreless silence in the 36th minute, putting the Monarchs on the board after a well-placed Trevor Hendricks cross found him just outside the keeper's box.
The first half faded quickly after that initial strike, as neither team breached the net for the remaining ticks.
The second half, on the other hand, saw Methodist apply more and more pressure until finally the Saints could not withstand the assault. Cyvin punched in his second tally of the day in the 61st minute and the Monarchs left no time for the Blue and White to recover. Less than a minute later, Jacob Jubin slammed a free kick into the upper right corner to extend the advantage to 3-0.
The Saints strung together several chances in response, but the final blow was yet to come. Methodist's Frank Barone snuck in the Monarch's fourth and final goal in the 77th minute to cap the score at 4-0.
Despite the unremitting attack, Marymount netminder Logan Cropper collected an impressive 15 saves in the effort.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday as they host Shenandoah at 7 p.m. in another nonconference tilt.
