Men's Lacrosse Wins ECAC Tournament Opener

Scranton, Pa. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team won the opening round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament with a 13-4 victory at Marywood on Wednesday evening.  With the win, the Saints improve to 9-7 overall on the year and clinch their first winning season since 2001.

Matt Justice led the Saints with three goals for a hat-trick while Connor Kellogg, Nico Burns and Jimmy Wendell each added a pair.  Garrett Nealon, Kellen McCarthy, Lance Bernecker and Max Johnson all added lone goals as well.

Kellogg paced the MU offense with three assists while Nealon added two.  Bernecker, Chris Madison, Chad Niergarth and McCarthy all tallied one.

Marymount took control of the game early and scored the first four goals of the game over the opening nine minutes of action.  The Saints spread the offense around with four different goal scorers courtesy of four different assists before the Pacers (10-9) notched their first point at the 2:49 mark.

In the second period, both squads battled through double man-down situations before Justice knocked home the only goal of the frame with one second remaining in the half.

Coming out of the break leading 5-1, MU kept the pressure on and posted five unanswered goals to lead 10-1 before Marywood converted a man-up situation with under a minute to play in the third quarter.  In the fourth, both teams traded goals the entire way with MU outscoring the Pacers 3-2 in the frame to seal the 13-4 victory.

Defensively, Derek DiGiovanni led the Saints with 17 saves on the night while 10 different Saints were credited with caused turnovers.

Vince Lodato was dominant on faceoffs, winning 13-of-18 trips to the center 'X' in the game.  He added a game-high seven ground balls while Tyler DaSilva and Garrett Satterwhite both chipped in four.

Four different Marywood players scored single goals on the night.

Marymount advances to face Albright in the semifinals of the draw on Saturday in Frostburg, Md.
