Box Score Fredericksburg, Va. – Marymount University's women's lacrosse team dropped its regular season finale 17-9 on the road at Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon. Junior Taylor Johnson scored her 100th career goal in the loss as the Saints close out the regular season 8-7 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Johnson reached the mark at the 12:17 point in the first half off an assist from Jacki Belker. She is just the seventh player in program history to amass 100 career goals and moves into ninth place all-time on the Marymount career points list.
Despite the loss, the Saints clinch their third-straight berth in the upcoming CAC Tournament. The Saints will turn right back around and travel to face Mary Washington in the first round on Tuesday.
Molly Maher led the Saints with five goals and two assists on the day. Johnson, Natalie Tinkham, Catherine Powell and Chelsea Ritter each scored lone goals as well.
After trading goals to start the game, Mary Washington (12-4, 5-2 CAC) posted four consecutive goals to take a 5-1 lead and closed out the first half on a 3-0 run to take a 10-4 advantage into halftime. Coming out of the break, the Eagles scored seven of the first eight goals in the second half to lead 17-5 before Marymount closed out the game with four unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes of action.
Kelly Smigen led Marymount with five ground balls while Tinkham added four.
Katie Williams and Corinne Wiederkeh both led Mary Washington with four goals.
Marymount returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to face Mary Washington once again in the First Round of the CAC Tournament.
