Box Score York, Pa. – Marymount University's women's soccer squad struggled to halt a relentless York offense on Tuesday afternoon – an offensive outing for the Spartans that resulted in five unanswered goals. The Saints skid to 1-9-1 on the season and 0-3 in CAC action.
Out of the gate, York played with unmatched intensity, pressuring the Saints' backline until finally rewarded with a penalty kick. Traci Mohl lined up in the box and fired away, sneaking the Spartans' first score past starting Marymount goalkeeper Erin Harris in just the fourth minute.
With the advantage pocketed early, York continued its ruthless attack, plundering the Saints for a second strike just moments later at the 22:02 mark. Jordan Snook played the ball over to the left side, finding Maxine Herman for the finish and the 2-0 advantage.
Herman, however, was not done just yet. In the 37th minute, the striker dribbled into the middle of the box for a one-on-one chance against recently-entered Saints keeper Holly Wenger. Herman secured her second tally of the day with a blast high and right, capping the Spartans' impressive offensive display in that opening half.
Coming off the break, the host did not wait long before striking again. A loose ball in the box gave way to a Kayla Kovalsky finish from point blank range – an unassisted bout that extended the Spartan advantage to 4-0 in the 49th minute.
The second half saw little action for the next 20 minutes or so, but the Spartans grew visibly more restless with shot after shot on target. Finally, Herman broke through for York in the 71st minute – securing a hat trick and upping the York lead to an insurmountable 5-0. This time the forward beat the Saints' defense, chasing down a loose ball in the box and punching it in low past Wenger in net.
Marymount returns to action on Friday when it travels to CAC rival Frostburg State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
