Saints Fall in Home Finale

Box Score

Arlington, Va. – In their final match at Long Bridge Park this season, the Marymount women's soccer squad dropped a 2-1 decision to conference foe Wesley.  The Saints slip to 1-14-1 on the season and 0-8 in CAC play.

Though the Blue and White outshot the Wolverines, the visitors proved more efficient, capitalizing on their intermittent chances.

The 30th minute saw Wesley break the scoreless drought, as a flurry in front of the Marymount net led to a Cassidy McSorley goal.  The Wolverines would carry the 1-0 advantage into half.

After the break, Wesley again jumped out on top, but not until the 64th minute.  The Wolverines deftly swung the ball to the left, eventually finding Morgan Warrington about 30 yards out.  Warrington ripped a shot well above the Marymount defense and slid her strike into the net's upper right corner.

Now faced with a 2-0 deficit, the Saints began to construct their rebuttal.  With the clock winding down, Marymount caught a break when the Wolverines committed a foul just beyond the 35-yard mark.  Danni Bankins dropped back to take the free kick, unleashing a laser into the net's top left corner.

Unfortunately, Bankins' strike would cap the day's scoring, as neither team mounted any serious threats over the remaining 15 minutes.

Marymount travels to St. Mary's on Wednesday night for its final match of this 2014 campaign.  Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.
