Box Score Frostburg, Md. – Despite dropping their first two sets on Wednesday night, the Saints found fortitude enough to rally back and escape their CAC opener unscathed. Marymount used a tight third-set victory to swing the momentum and eventually cruise past conference foe Frostburg State in the lengthy five-set duel. The Blue and White improve to 17-5 overall with the win, and kick off CAC play with an always-welcome 1-0 record.
Freshman Rebecca Bateman proved quite the utility player for the Saints, collecting a double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs on the night. Senior Cassidie Watson also contributed 14 digs to Marymount's defensive effort.
Four different Saints posted double-digit kills in the contest, with senior Erin Allison and sophomore Emileigh Rettig paving the way with a match-high 17 apiece. Sophomores Cailyn Thomas and Hannah Steger poured in 10 kills each to round out the Saints' attack.
Despite being dramatically outhit in the first two sets, the Blue and White dug deep and combated the Bobcats with impressive percentages to close out the day. The Saints punctuated the match with a firm exclamation point, outhitting the host .310 to .086 in the fourth set, and then .484 to .000 to seal the deal in the fifth.
Marymount returns to Arlington, Va., on Saturday as it hosts Methodist and CAC rival Wesley in a tri-match beginning at noon.
