Box Score Harrisburg, Pa. – The Saints lost a grueling match to CAC foe Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, dueling through a 1-1 deadlock until the Lions notched the game-winner in the 87th minute. The league opener pushes Marymount to 1-8-1 on the year and 0-1 in CAC action.
The host struck first – and early – in the scuffle, sending a free kick past Marymount netminder Holly Wenger in just the 15th minute.
The 1-0 advantage held until the half, when the Saints seemed to regroup and find the urgency to fight back.
The Blue and White purloined control from the Lions early in that second half, pressuring incessantly until Penn State's backline finally gave way. Danielle Canning dribbled in and beat the defense to punch in the equalizer – reeling in her first goal of the season with the much-needed strike.
From there, the squads battled almost shot-for-shot until Penn State struck gold in that 87th minute. Rachel Shetler – who'd knocked in the free kick much earlier in the contest – sent in her second blast of the night to give the Lions the late lead.
Time stood firmly against the Saints at that point, as the game's final ticks seemed to melt away all too quickly.
Wenger suffers the loss and drops to 1-7 on the year and 0-1 in league play.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday when they travel to York (Pa.) to face the Spartans in another CAC tilt. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
