Men's Lacrosse Falls in Triple Overtime Thriller

Box Score

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's lacrosse team fell 12-11 in triple overtime to visiting Hood on Saturday night. The loss is the sixth of the season for the Saints in games decided by two goals or fewer.

Chris Wascak led the Saints (2-12, 0-6 CAC) with three goals while David Huson and Matt Hershel both added a pair. Drew Phillips, Fran Turella, Tom Anderson and Jack Burke all scored as well for Marymount.

Jeff Cook chipped in a pair of assists while Austin Griffie and Connor Kellogg both had one each.

Ross Fernandez hauled in nine saves for the Saints off the bench. Faceoff specialist Vince Lodato collected a team-high seven ground balls while Robby Woycik added four and caused four turnovers.

Trading leads to open the first quarter, Marymount would eventually begin to pull away with three goals over the final 2:24, including two in the last minute, to go up 4-2 heading into the second. The Saints kept at it the next quarter, outscoring the Blazers 4-2 again to take an 8-4 advantage into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Hood (6-6, 2-4 CAC) began to chip away at the Saints lead. The Blazers scored the first three goals of the second half to pull within one at 8-7 before MU put some breathing room between the two squads with a 9-7 lead after three quarters.

In the fourth, Marymount would lead by as many as three goals with five minutes to play before Hood began to mount its comeback. The Saints surrendered three unanswered goals down the stretch before the Blazers tied things up at 11-11 with 40 seconds to play.

Both sides had their shot to score in the opening overtime but nothing came of it for either squad. Marymount dominated the second OT, outshooting Hood 6-0 but the Blazers backup keeper was hot all night and pulled in three saves that stanza alone.

Hood finally put the game away in the third overtime with 2:10 remaining.

Marymount returns to action on Tuesday at second-ranked Salisbury.
