Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's soccer team dropped a tough overtime thriller 3-2 to visiting Methodist on Sunday afternoon. The overtime decision is the third in the last four games for the Saints and the second in as many days.

Freddy Bonilla put the Saints (2-4-3) on the board early with a goal in the 13th minute. Controlling the ball in the right corner, he lofted a shot into the box and off the far post, careening into the goal to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

The Monarchs (7-1-2) would respond about five minutes later, evening the score at the 17:01 mark. Methodist then took the lead four minutes after that off an awkward chip shot that bounced over the head of the MU goalkeeper Mike Madigan. Both goals were scored by their leading scorer, Eric McGinnis.

A tightly-contested matchup from the opening whistle, both teams combined for 40 fouls and nine cards. Methodist was issued a red card to its starting right midfielder after accruing his second caution in the half with just under two minutes to go until halftime to allow the Saints to play a man up the rest of the way.

Marymount would take advantage of the situation, knotting the score in the second stanza at the 51:56 mark. Onar Yousefi headed home a perfect set ball off a free kick from Kjell Crooke for the equalizer.

In overtime, Methodist put the game away 6:50 in with a give-and-go from its top goal scorer, Eirik Nordseth, who had previously been neutralized all day by the MU defense.

In goal, Madigan collected five saves in the loss despite leaving the game for the final 13 minutes of the opening half after a collision in front of the net.

Marymount returns to action on Wednesday as they travel to face Capital Athletic Conference rival Mary Washington.
