ARLINGTON, Va. – It's a year of firsts for Marymount softball.
After bringing home their first Atlantic East Conference Championship in just their fourth year as a program, the Saints are in Texas to play in their first NCAA Regional, looking to continue their historic season
REGIONAL SITE
- The Saints were seeded in the Marshall, Tex. regional, facing off against #1 East Texas Babtist in the first game on the site.
- The other two teams at the Regional site are Belhaven and St. Thomas (Tex.).
- Marymount will take on Tigers of East Texas Baptist at 11 AM on Thursday, May 15.
- With a win, the Saints will play at noon on Friday, May. 16 at 12 PM in the winner's bracket. A loss would put them at 2:30 PM in an elimination round.
- Each regional site is a double elimination format, with the winner of the site heading to the NCAA Super Regionals.
SCOUTING THE REGION
- It will be the first time playing any of the teams on the Regional Site.
- East Texas Baptist earned hosting rights after a 40-3 overall record heading into the National Tournament. They won the American Southwest Conference Tournament to earn the automatic qualifier.
- Another nationally-recognized program is on-site in Belhaven, who has a 31-7 overall record heading into the Regional. They earned automatic qualification by winning the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament.
- The final team with Marymount at the Regional is St. Thomas (Tex.) who sports a 32-10 overall record to date, winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament to earn their way to the Tournament.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
- Marymount earned the bid to the Regional after their historic Atlantic East Conference Championship, winning two straight against Immaculata last Saturday to secure their first-ever title.
- Bailey Demusz was named the Atlantic East Conference Tournament MVP after tossing a complete game with 13 total strikeouts to send the Saints to the winner-take-all Championship. She was named All-Conference Second Team after sporting a 3.98 ERA in conference play through the regular season.
- Other All-Conference honorees for the Saints include Haley Greer, Kaylee Atkins, Samantha Cinotti, Jenna Jew, Kaylynn Johnson, Kammie Brown, and Hailey Leamer.
- On the year, the Saints batted .323 with an on-base percentage as a team, proving to be tough outs at the plate.
- In AEC play, Marymount turned it up a notch at the plate with an impressive team batting average of .416 and an OPS of 1.020.
- Johnson (42) and Atkins (30) led the Saints in the RBI category. With both also leading the team in home runs.
- Emma McCormack has only allowed one earned run in her last six outings in the circle, including complete game shutouts in the AEC Tournament to help lead the Saints to the title.
ABOUT THE CHAMPIONSHIP
- The 2025 NCAA DIII softball tournament saw its 64-team field revealed via a selection show on May 12 on NCAA.com.
- The 2025 tournament consists of two selection pools: automatic qualifiers from conference tournament titles and at-large berths.
- The regional round will be held May 15-17. Sixteen sites will host four teams at each regional site.
- The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 22 and 23 hosted by eight institutions.
- The finals, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University, will be held May 29 - June 4 at Inspiration Field in Bloomington, Illinois.
- All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
- Forty-two conferences received an automatic qualification into the championship.
- The 22 remaining teams were selected on an at-large basis using the NCAA Power Index (NPI).
