Softball Ends Season in NCAA Regionals

MARSHALL, TEX. -- Marymount softball finished out their season on Friday at the NCAA Regionals, falling to Belhaven by a final score of 14-1 in the elimination round of the Marshall, Texas pod.

The Saints end their historic season with a final overall record of 19-26, but ultimately highlighted by their first-ever Atlantic East Conference Championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Starter Bailey Demusz threw a zero on the scoreboard to open the match up.
  • The Saints threatened in the bottom of the first inning, with Kammie Brown reaching via an error and moving over to second with a successful sacrifice bunt from Samantha Cinotti.
  • After Haley Greer reached on another error by the Belhaven defense, the Saints had first and third with just one away. Marymount was unable to put anything on the board as Belhaven's starter sat the next two down in order.
  • Belhaven plated seven in the second and five more in the third to take a commanding lead.
  • After two more in the top of the fifth from Belhaven, the Saints were staring at a 14-0 deficit.
  • Leila Hernandez knocked a triple to open the bottom of the fifth inning, looking to get a rally started.
  • Cinotti knocked a grounder deep enough to score Hernandez to get Marymount on the board.
  • Greer flew out to deep left to end the game and Marymount's storied year.
