Women’s Lacrosse Claims Victory Over University of Wisconsin Eau Claire

Box Score Arlington, VA. – Marymount women's lacrosse stands strong against the Blugolds, earning 18 points to the Blugolds' 6 to secure the win.

This brings their record to 8-2 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hannah Smith set the tone for the defense to start the game denying a goal attempt by the Blugolds, immediately Smith turned the save into an offensive opportunity for the Saints. Jillian Blair capitalized on the quick attack started by Smith to earn the first goal of the game. The draw control was won by the Blugolds, but was repossessed by Bailey Gehler leading to a goal by Taylor Chepren assisted by Arayla Garcia. Two minutes later, an additional two goals were scored by the Saints exactly thirty seconds apart by Tess Valentino from a free position opportunity and Ella Baker with an assist by Riley Love. The Saints continued to refuse the Blugolds any goal opportunities while scoring two more back to back goals. The goals were scored by Valentino assisted by Gehler and Love unassisted. The Blugolds challenged the Saints' defense by scoring three goals before the end of the first quarter. Marymount added one more to the board before the end of the quarter, scored by Baker and assisted by Love. The score at the end of the first was 7-3.
  • Marymount scored first in the second quarter. The goal was scored by Valentino and assisted by Love. The Saints successfully defended against the Blugolds and were rewarded with five additional goals before the end of the half. The points were earned by Valentino with an assist from Love, Gehler with an assist from Love, Love with and assist from Chepren, and Love unassisted. The Blugolds were only able to gain one goal in the second quarter ending the half with a score of 12-4.
  • The second half began with the Saints on defense. Gehler quickly changed the possession by causing a turn over and stealing the ball from the Blugolds. Gehler's steal led to an offensive push that ended with a goal by Arayla Garcia assisted by Chepren. The Blugolds were consistently winning draw controls in the third quarter but Marymount's defense in the midfield was able to regain possession without allowing the Blugolds into an attacking position. After a yellow card for the Blugolds, Marymount's Kaylee Heath put one in the net from a man up position with an assist from Love. After the draw control, both teams fought to maintain possession until the end of the period when the Blugolds were able to find the goal one additional time. The third quarter ended with a score of 14-5.
  • Carmella Garcia gained the draw control to start the fourth quarter for the Saints. Marymount contained the Blugolds possession to the Saints attacking third, resulting in a goal earned by Valentino assisted by Love. Arayla Garcia continued the trend by earning a draw control that pushed the attack, resulting in the second goal of the quarter by Baker from a free position shot. The Blugolds pushed back against the Saints initiating multiple attempts at goal. Smith was able to protect the goal and earned multiple saves, but the Blugolds were able to earn one final goal for the game from a free position shot. The Saints ended the game with two final goals claimed by Valentino from a free position and Brooke Bretney with an assist from Emily Prensky. The game ended in an 18-6 victory for the Saints.
  • Notable moments by the Saints: Tess Valentino scored six goals for the Saints. Riley Love contributed seven assists and three goals, helping the Saints earn ten points in the game. Arayla Garcia and Carmella Garcia matched for successful draw controls, each earning five. Hannah Smith defended the goal with five saves.

  • The Saints' next home appearance will be on Wednesday March 26th, where the Saints will face off against Eastern Mennonite University at 4pm. The game will take place at Long Bridge Park.
