RADNOR, Pa. - Marymount baseball opened up their three-game series with Cabrini on Friday afternoon, splitting the day with the Cavaliers after a decisive game one win and a 12 inning marathon loss in game two.
The Saints improve to 16-5 overall on the season, 4-1 in the AEC.
GAME ONE: MU 7 - CAB 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game one of the day opened up with a pair of scoreless innings from the starters, with David Muirhead keeping the Cavaliers at bay early on.
- The Saints came through in the top of the third inning with an RBI walk with the bases loaded from Ryan Cuadros. Kevin Knoess kept the offense rolling with a sacrifice fly, scoring Quincy Via. Jonathan McMath then roped an RBI single, before Joseph Kramp finished off the five-run frame with a two-RBI single to give Marymount a strong cushion.
- Leiztel punched an RBI single in the top of the fourth to score Via, who reached and stole second earlier in the inning.
- Knoess pushed across an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning, getting the score to 7-to-1.
- Muirhead earned his fourth win of the season in complete game fashion, allowing just one earned run while striking out five.
- Leitzel went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
- Knoess pushed across a pair of RBI with two hits.
- Kramp went 1-3 with two RBI.
- Jordan Dickson went perfect at the plate, 3-3.
GAME TWO - 12 INNINGS: CAB 7 - MU 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cabrini got on the board first in game two with two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
- Via got the Saints on the board in the top of the third, driving in Chad Singleton, who walked to open the frame.
- The Cavaliers pushed across another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
- Via got the Saints within a run with a two-run home run in the top of the fifth, putting the score at 3-2.
- The Saints pushed another run across in the same inning to even up the tally.
- MU plated another run in the top of the sixth to take their first lead of the day.
- McMath extended the lead with his first home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to give the Saints a two-run cushion.
- Cabrini tied up the game in the bottom of the eighth, ultimately forcing the game into extra innings.
- The Cavaliers walked it off in the bottom of the 12th inning to take the conference matchup.
- Via went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.
- Braeden Lencz went 4.2 innings in his start with eight strikeouts.
- Kyle Lewis took the loss in the contest, showing well out of the pen with 3.2 innings pitched and seven strikeouts.
