TYSONS, Va. - Marymount baseball took care of business on Sunday afternoon, finishing out a three-game sweep of the Neumann Knights to open up AEC play.
The Saints improve to 14-4 on the season, now sitting 3-0 in the AEC.
GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Knights got on the board first in game one of the day, the Saints didn't look back, scoring three in the bottom frame of the first, first with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ryan Cuadros, scoring Quincy Via who walked to open the frame. Kevin Knoess then singled to center field to score Bobby Leitzel who singled to reach. The scoring ended with an RBI groundout from Craig Sodano.
- Marymount put up three more in the bottom of the third inning with a three-RBI double from Jonathan McMath.
- Knoess shot another RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to six.Â
- Sophomore lefty Braeden Lencz pitched a complete game gem, going all 7.0 innings allowing no earned runs while striking out six. He now sits at 4-0 on the season.Â
- Jay Beavers added a hit in the win to add to his strong day behind the dish.Â
GAME TWOÂ
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game two was a low scoring affair, with both starters dealing on the mound.
- Parker Casselberry pitched 7.0 shutout innings on the mound allowing just five hits with six strikeouts to earn the no decision.
- It was McMath again in the bottom of the eighth inning with a bases clearing double to put the needed three runs on the board for the Saints. He ended the day with three doubles and six RBI.
- Owen Mead earned the win on the mound after coming in in the eighth inning. He went 1.2 innings with two strikouts.
- Kyle Lewis earned his fourth save of the season, cleaning up the final out with the tying run stranded at second.Â
- Jordan Dickson went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk.
- Cuadros and Alec Reilly each added a hit.Â
UP NEXT
- The Saints will head back into non-conference action on Tuesday, traveling to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a 3:30 PM first pitch.
- They will get back into AEC play on Thursday, heading to Cabrini for a doubleheader starting at noon.
