Offensive Onslaught Pushes Baseball Past St. Mary's

St. Mary's City, Md. - Marymount baseball moved to 15-4 on the season behind a display at the plate across the board from the Saints.

Scoring 30 total runs, the Saints break the program record for runs in a single game, as well as single game margin of victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ryan Cuadros knocked an RBI single to score Bobby Leitzel, who singled to center earlier in the frame, to get the offense moving for MU. Jonathan McMath continued to stay hot at the plate, driving an RBI single to center to score Cuadros. The Saints were up by 2 after one inning of play. 
  • The Saints exploded for a 13-run inning in the top of the second, tied for second all-time in a single inning. It started with a single from Alec Reilly, who was later scored by an RBI single by Quincy Via. Leitzel then shot a single down the left field line to score Jordan Dickson and Robert Moffett. Cuadros immediately followed with a single of his own, then Kevin Knoess continued to slug as the center fielder punched a double into left center to score Leitzel and Cuadros. Cuadros and Knoess added RBI hits in the inning.
  • Marymount added six more in the top of the fourth behind RBI hits from Cuadros, McMath, and a sacrifice fly from Joseph Kramp.
  • Tristan Lovins and Moffett each punched RBi singles in the top of the fifth to extend the Saints' lead.
  • Jack Kern added a pair to the scoreboard with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning. 
  • Nick Trapanese hit an RBI double down the left field line to score Jimmy Baker and Craig Sodano.
  • Baker collected the final RBI of the day in the top of the ninth to hit the 30 run mark. 
  • Michael Arce earned the win on the mound, going 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just three runs, while striking out three and walking none. 
  • Even Cash pitched 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, with Coleman Grehawick tossing a scoreless frame in the eighth with a strikeout.
  • Nathan Saber struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to put the finishing touches to the decisive victory. 
  • Via went 1-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. 
  • Leitzel went 2-for-3 with a a pair of RBI.
  • Cuadros went perfect at the plate, 4-4, with five RBI. 
  • McMath knocked a triple with four total RBI.
  • Knoess knocked three hits, two doubles, collecting three RBI.
  • Lovins knocked a pair of hits with an RBI.
  • Kramp collected two RBI.
  • Reilly had two hits.
  • Moffett went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
  • Trapanese knocked a two-RBI double. 
UP NEXT
  • The Saints will head back to conference play on Thursday, taking on Cabrini at their park for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
  • They will be back at Capital One Park on Monday, Apr. 1, for a single game at 6 PM.
