NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Marymount baseball took the trip to the 757 for a non-conference matchup with #18 Christopher Newport on Friday afternoon, ultimately falling by a final tally of 9-3.
The Saints drop to 11-3 with the loss, still awaiting conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount got on the board quickly in the opening frame, with Jonathan McMath dropping a two-run double down the right field line to give MU a fast 2-0 lead.
- The Captains answered with a pair in the bottom of the first to even up the score.
- CNU added on in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead, followed by three more in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead.
- Sean Quinn shot a single up the middle in the top of the seventh, scoring Kevin Knoess who singled earlier in the frame.
- The Saints were unable to mount a comeback, falling to the Captains by the game's final score of 9-3.
- Quinn and McMath were the run producers in the loss, with McMath collecting two RBI and Quinn with one.
- Ryan Cuadros, McMath, Knoess, and Quinn each had one hit.
- David Muirhead allowed just three hits in 5.0 innings of work, striking out a pair.Â
UP NEXT
- The Saints will take on CNU again this upcoming Tuesday, this time at home at 3 PM.
- They will start their first conference series next weekend, taking on Neumann.
