Saints Down Marywood in Conference Opener to Earn 10th Consecutive Win

Box Score

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Marymount University women's lacrosse team pushed its win streak to 10 consecutive games on Saturday afternoon with a 16-8 victory over Atlantic East Conference foe Marywood University.

Marymount opened conference action with a lockdown defensive performance. The Saints allowed just 16 shots from the Pacers to find their way on goal, and limited Marywood to 21 shots overall. Marymount forced the home side into 25 turnovers and held a decisive edge in ground balls, 24-12. The performance marked the eighth time this season the Saints have held their opponent under 10 goals.

The Saints set the tone early as they scored the first four goals of the contest. The Blue and White followed that up with five goals in the second quarter, highlighted by a trio from Kaleigh Dunham, to take a 9-5 lead at the halftime break.

MU kept its foot on the gas after halftime with four unanswered goals to start the third quarter. Taylor Young, Emily Peters, Sarah Agrillo, and Taylor Chepren supplied the firepower for the barrage as the Saints took a 13-5 lead. MU cruised from there and tacked on three more goals in the final quarter to seal the victory.

Dunham paced the Saints' offense with five points on five goals. Riley Love and Agrillo posted identical scorelines as each finished with three goals and one assist. Peters supplied two goals and a pair of assists, while Young added two goals. Chepren rounded out MU's goal-scorers with one goal and one assist.

Megan Edens finished with a game-best nine draw controls as well as an assist. Young acted as a two-way pest for the Saints with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Caitlyn Dunn added a game-high seven ground balls and two caused turnovers to help anchor MU's defense. In goal, Mariel Russ tallied eight saves to earn the victory.

Marymount remains on the road for its next contest on Wednesday, April 6, when the Saints battle Cabrini University in a rematch of the 2021 Atlantic East Championship game. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
